Fun Things to Do in Paleros

Nestled on the western coast of mainland Greece, Paleros is a charming seaside village overlooking the turquoise waters of the Ionian Sea. Known for its relaxed atmosphere, beautiful sunsets, and authentic Greek character, Paleros is the perfect destination for travellers seeking a quieter, more genuine Greek experience.

Whether you’re visiting for a few days or enjoying a longer stay, here are the best things to do in Paleros, Greece, from a local perspective.

1. Relax by the Sea and Enjoy Paleros Beach

Paleros Beach stretches along the village promenade, offering calm, clear waters ideal for swimming. With cafés and tavernas just steps away, it’s easy to spend the day moving between the sea and a shaded table by the water.

The gentle Ionian Sea makes Paleros especially suitable for families, while the sunsets here are among the most beautiful in West Greece.

2. Enjoy Fresh Seafood at a Traditional Taverna

One of the highlights of visiting Paleros is its excellent food. Along the waterfront, family-run tavernas serve fresh fish, grilled seafood, local meats, and classic Greek dishes.

Dining here is unhurried and social — long lunches, sea views, and friendly service are all part of the experience.

3. Take a Boat Trip to the Ionian Islands

Paleros is perfectly located for exploring nearby Ionian islands such as Meganisi, Kalamos, and Kastos. Renting a boat with skipper if you dont have a licence and go for the day, stopping in some beautiful bays for a swim, go for lunch in one of the harbors in the mentioned islands, eat an ice cream, go to the boat, another beautiful stop for a swim and head back to Paleros.

Boat trips are one of the most popular activities in Paleros and a must-do during your stay in my opinion.

4. Visit Nearby Beaches

Beyond the village, the coastline around Paleros is dotted with quiet beaches and hidden bays. The best way to explore is renting a small boat in one of the many local shops in the harbor. Licence is not required for the small ones which are just perfect to go around Varko Bay, Vathia Vali or towards Mytikas where there are a few ones too. They provide you with a little portable fridge so you can take a packed lunch and drinks.

5. Explore the Surrounding Nature and Villages

The area around Paleros offers lovely countryside, olive groves, and traditional villages. Scenic drives lead to viewpoints over the sea, while inland villages like Steno, Plagia, Kandila.. provide a glimpse into everyday life in rural Greece.

You can reach Lefkada via the scenic mountain road, passing through an abandoned village where time seems to have stood still. Stone houses, surprisingly well preserved, are nestled among lush trees, creating a truly magical and atmospheric setting. It’s a beautiful and peaceful route, perfect for those who enjoy discovering hidden places and experiencing the quieter, more authentic side of the area.

Nature lovers will enjoy walking, light hiking, and discovering the slower pace of the region.

6. Take a Day Trip to Lefkada Island

One of Paleros’ greatest advantages is its proximity to Lefkada Island, easily reached by car. Famous for its dramatic beaches such as Porto Katsiki and Egremni, Lefkada makes a perfect day trip while staying in the calmer surroundings of Paleros.

7. Experience the Relaxed Lifestyle of West Greece

Above all, Paleros is about slowing down. Life here revolves around the sea, good food, and simple pleasures. It’s a destination where days unfold naturally — go for a swim in the morning when the sea is so calm, actually the Ionian Sea is the most tranquil in Europe, and in the mornings feel like a pool, go for a cold coffee originally made here you must try Freddo expreso or Freddo Capuccino with frosted milk , just delicious, long lunches in the promenade enjoying the sea view, maybe a siesta by the pool in the afternoon, read a book, go for a cocktail in the evenings by the water, dinner with fresh products and local wine..

For many visitors, this relaxed rhythm is what makes Paleros so special.

8. Rent an electric bike

Renting an electric bike is a wonderful way to explore the area at a relaxed pace while enjoying the natural beauty around you. A particularly lovely route is the ride to the nearby village of Mytikas, where you can stop for a coffee or a leisurely lunch right by the water.

The ride itself is easy and enjoyable which in my opinion, is one of the best roads I ever seen to ride, even on warmer days, thanks to the electric assistance, and offers beautiful views along the way.

Once in Mytikas, make your way to the seaside ouzeria O Faros, a local favorite set just steps from the sea. Here, you can sit by the water, enjoy traditional meze, fresh seafood, and a cold drink, all while taking in the peaceful coastal atmosphere. The owner goes out every day to catch fish so you probably can see him with his catch for the day while you there.

Whether you go for a morning coffee or a long, relaxed lunch, an electric bike makes the journey effortless and adds a touch of adventure to an already memorable day.
